Muslim Americans for Compassion and Doctors for Healthy Communities are partnering with the Uniting Partners for Women and Children (UP) to help fellow citizens in our compassionate city. Our initiative is to address social and civic concerns in communities that are underserved and utilize our resources efficiently to achieve what we believe is the most positive effect.
UP opened its doors in July and is Louisville’s first women’s-only day shelter. The organization provides basic hygiene access in addition to case management services. From July 16 (opening day) to October 26 and in 43 shifts (operating Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) UP had 853 visits from more than 150 women and children. UP assisted with 301 showers and 257 loads of laundry. At this time, UP is collecting coats and cold-weather items such as hats and gloves. However, they also have need for blankets and adult backpacks for guests.
We are reaching out to generous people like you to either buy the supplies (adult backpack/blanket) or donate funds. The estimated cost of one blanket and adult backpack is $50. Any amount is welcome, and all donations are tax deductible. Please include your address and email for the receipt. Kindly mail checks or drop the supplies at either of the following addresses:
