Building upon Muslim Americans for Compassion’s recent visit to Turkey via Dr. Muhammad Babar and Dr. Sajjad Jameel, MAC wanted to provide support for those affected by the recent devastating earthquake. A non-perishable food delivery was made to the residents of Antakya, Hatay, Turkey, by MAC volunteers including Dr. Mian Waqar Badshah.
Additionally, Iftar (the evening meal to break fasts during the Holy Month of Ramadan) was provided to more than 250 residents. Images and video from the deliveries are available on MAC’s Flickr page here.
In the featured video, Dr. Badshah speaks in Urdu, saying,
“Today, we are in center city of Antakya, in Hatay, Turkey. As you can see in the background, there is widespread devastation. Approximately 80-90% of the houses are damaged. Today we will provide Iftar (meal to break the fast in Ramadan) to around 250 to 300 people affected by the earthquake. We will also give food packages to the local community. I encourage all the friends of Muslim Americans for Compassion (MAC) to support. I want to thank you Dr. Muhammad Babar, Dr. Sajjad Jameel and everyone else for their generous donations to help others. I pray that God Almighty accept your charities and donations. We are making the list of local families in the city, and we will plan to continue these efforts. Thank you and Assalamu Alaikum (peace upon you).”
If you’re able to donate, MAC’s GoFundMe page to support the people of Turkey is still active here: https://gofund.me/ e2b7ca3f
All donations will directly assist those affected by the earthquake via supplies and food.
