During the holy month of Ramadan, Louisville‘s synagogue Chabad House was lost in a fire. It was heartbreaking to see the loss of a place of worship for our fellow brothers and sisters in Judaism. Muslim Americans for Compassion put together a fundraiser and raised $2,000 for the rebuilding efforts of the Chabad House. Dr. Muhammad Babar shared this gift with Rabbi Abraham Litvin at the Gathering of Comm-UNITY and Thanksgiving on Sunday, May 22 at the Trager Family JCC on behalf of MAC donors and supporters. This gathering was also attended by many other local leaders including Mayor Fischer.
Dr. Babar, President of Muslim Americans for Compassion, kindled a light for compassion after saying:
“The great Kentucky Poet, Wendell Berry, once said: “We have lived our lives by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world. We have been wrong. We must change our lives so that it will be possible to live by the contrary assumption, that what is good for the world will be good for us”. Today, we come together, brothers from the same father Abraham, to affirm our shared brotherhood and the value that comes when we can work together- when we put what is good for the world first. On behalf of the Muslim Americans for Compassion, we express our appreciation to Chabad for all that they have done and continue to do to help fulfill the legacy of hospitality and generosity of spirit that was first taught by Abraham, Ibrahim.”
Thank you to everyone who worked to make this event a touching and beautiful success. Watch Dr. Babar speak via the video below.
